Do I really owe this debt collection company money?

Sod 'em - it's a credit debt & therefore very difficult to enforce. Ignore phone calls & letters until they issue a court summons (which they'll probably never get round to) and then negotiate a payment scheme with the court. I strongly believe that everyone should pay their debts, but these collection firms are bullies & parasites.
