Why would they call something so uncommon "Common Sense?"?

Maybe you notice the lack of common sense in our society, maybe you lack it. Whatever the case, common sense has become such a rare commodity that it makes the dodo bird weep. Common sense is supposedly common, right? Well, where is it hiding now?
